Tether CEO Announces Server-Free Password Manager Following 16 Billion Data Breach
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino unveiled plans for PearPass, a serverless, open-source password manager, in response to a historic 16 billion-record data breach. The breach, uncovered by Cybernews, exposed credentials for major platforms like Apple, Facebook, and government services—many with recent timestamps and sensitive metadata.
"The cloud has failed us. Again," Ardoino declared on X, positioning PearPass as a decentralized alternative. The solution stores credentials exclusively on users' devices, eliminating cloud dependencies. This MOVE capitalizes on growing distrust of centralized storage after the largest confirmed breach in history.
Security researchers confirm the stolen data includes active session tokens and cookies, making the breach particularly dangerous. PearPass's architecture reflects cryptocurrency principles of self-custody, mirroring crypto wallets' key management philosophy.
